This trap occurs in the Dutch defence, after 1.d4 f5, 2.Bg5 h6, 3.Bh4 g5 (note: 104 games reached this position in one month, on FICS). This position seems to trap white’s dark square Bishop but 4.e4 threatens checkmate with 5.Qh5. After 4.e4, a brief analysis of games from FICS gives this position as 72.5% wins for White when: 4. … Nf6, 5.e5 or 4. …Bg7, 5.Qh5+ still result in unfortunate positions for Black. As a 1.d4 player myself, I’ve scored some quick knockouts in Bullet/Blitz against over-aggressive opponents.
