Houdini 2.0 is the long anticipated update of one of the strongest Chess Engines. Coming in two commercial forms, Standard and Pro, its authors claim improved evaluation. This makes Houdini 2.0 Standard (€39.95 +VAT) about 25 Elo stronger than its predecessor Houdini 1.5a.
In contrast, on high-end hardware Houdini 2.0 Pro €59.95 +VAT) with its additional NUMA-related speed improvements is about 40 Elo stronger than Houdini 1.5ab-16.
At present, the free 1.5 engine is still available; given the modest ELO improvements, this seems to remain the more prudent option.
